My practice is an obsession with the haptic, the manipulation of texture and materiality of an object and the craftsmanship of sculpture. Because of this my work normally deals with the concerns of the personal viewpoint of taste (though whimsical and hard to quantify) with the “pure” creation of the artist. I constantly deal with the themes of Materiality vs aesthetics and conceptualism.
I often find myself expressing this through the production and testing of sculptures. This means my practice is very open, the experimentation allows for what seems like an un-exhausting amount of transformation, truly getting in and pushing the limits of the materials.
Contemporary Art has allowed the atypical artist to flourish. The opportunity to experiment with a chance of growth through production. I think the pushing of people to just do and create and see where that takes them is fantastic and fun and needs to be brought back on a larger scale, that the passion for the material and the labour of production and being in love with your work should top the narrative any day.
