For the souls who enjoy a good challenge, competitive behavior can keep you motivated with small levels of immediate reward, and can be a healthy behavior as long as you are practicing positive competitive behavior.

  • Ways fitness groups have marketed this, is with 30 day challenges, mostly because that is how long it takes to form a habit and enough time for the effects of exercise to start showing. But to use the planking exercise as an example, the time you are expected to be able to hold the pose increases each day (with a rest day each week) so each day you feel more accomplished as you can easily see a difference.

  • Or actually any 30 day challenge, like Inktober, where you get a list of themes to draw everyday of the October month. You feel accomplished being able to tick off each completed theme you draw each day, and satisfied at the end when you have a collection of 31 pictures.

  • If you have one of the amazon echo products, Alexa can definitely bring out competitive behavior. Everyday you can answer the question of the day or skills like trivia heroes. The questions refresh each day and It keeps your score and puts it on a leader-board.

  • A positive  motivational competitive behavior my family have indulged in recently is taking care of a new pet plant, looking after and comparing the sizes as they grow
