On the First week of Christmas

Shalloe Gallery Newsletter gave to me…

My first Newsletter reveal is 3 previously unseen artworks, from my wave series mini project.

Turbulence

Part 1of 3 of my wave series.

The Wave series is an abstract project to represent waves with acrylics. The first of the series is turbulence, a chaotic mismatch of unnatural wave colours to show the “Violence” in a storm.

Calm

Part 2 of 3 of my wave series.

Following on from turbulence, calm has smother curves to it to show a peaceful nature and an almost delicateness.

Foam & Seaweed

Part 3 of 3 of my wave series.

The final part of the wave series and a more traditional representational piece of work. An almost bird’s eye view of an ocean detailed with the lights and darks of foam and seaweed.

The next gift is an inside look for 2 lifestyle updates

As a arty person i am constantly looking for new activities to express myself, recently i came across HelloPoetry a website dedicated to spreading poetry, where you can both read and upload your own poetry. Not to fall into stereotypes but i do love and appreciate most creative outputs. To spread my wings a little i decided to join the site, to be an artist by day and a poet by night. I’m still relatively new, and will most likely post sporadically, but i am ready to share my thoughts and words. If you’d like to find me on that site, you can follow this link.

In the meantime to give you a little taster i will post 2 of my short poems here. Who knows it could become a monthly addition to the Newsletter.

Bitter Hearts

I will not love for fear of losing,
And if a fondness should creep through,
Like ivy I’ll cut it back.

Disease spreads fast

They've cut down the trees where we first met,
if that's not a sign, i'll find a better one yet.

The Last gift of this week is, as always, an Artist Featurette

Henry Moore is best known for his large bronze sculptures, but that is only the tip of the ice burg of all the things he got up to. In 2011 i started my own fascination of sculptural shapes, previous to this stage my art was inspired from a Gothic architecture background, i was obsessed with the curves and abstract shapes produced . So when the opportunity to go see Moore’s sculptures came up i was absolutely stoked.

Surprisingly though, the most breath taking bit was actually going into his home. The hoarder like collection of objects and artifacts was astonishing. It wasn’t hard to imagine the daily inspiration he would have received walking into any room . To this day i vividly remember spotting a narwhal tusk and a giant turtle/tortoise shell on display. things that shocked me by there presence and yet thinking back also made perfect sense to his character.

So with this small featurette i encourage you to go out and see where your favourite artist lived, or perhaps see if they have studio tours. seeing the items people surround themselves with is such an interesting experience; What people put on display or keep in storage. Plus anyone who works there, or the people on hand are normally happy to share lesser known tidbits about the artist.

So i’ll leave you with these images, observational drawings of Henry Moore’s sculptures located in Perry Green i did in 2011 when i was still in high school.

I hope you enjoyed the first week of Shalloe Gallery Christmas, stay tuned for next sunday and a new batch of gifts.
